The BC SPCA works to improve the lives of farm animals in many different ways. One way we work towards a better future for farm animals is by recommending higher-welfare food products to consumers.
We encourage consumers to purchase food products certified by an independent animal welfare assurance program, and when certified options are not available, we help consumers understand how they can make informed decisions that still protect farm animal welfare.
Are you looking to purchase food products from farm animals raised to high standards of animal welfare? Confused about what the food labels mean and don’t want to be mislead? Learn more here.
The SPCA Certified program was the BC SPCA’s third-party animal welfare assurance program, which began in 2002. This program certified farmers who raised their animals to high standards of care set out by the BC SPCA.
Since then, other third-party animal welfare certification programs have been established. In order to make a bigger impact on farm animal welfare by reducing program duplication, the BC SPCA will no longer be certifying farms under the SPCA Certified program as of 2021.
