It’s a story with a happy ending: horse Sweet Pea, along with her foal, Tanner, will be going home to live with their new guardians in Clearwater.
You may remember Sweet Pea: earlier this year the BC SPCA put out a call for suggestions for a name for her foal, who was born at our Surrey Good Shepherd Barn on Apr. 22.

Sweet Pea also came into the care of the BC SPCA after a cruelty investigation.
“Sweet Pea arrived at the BC SPCA underweight, pregnant and nervous of people,” says Skye Harnett, acting farm animal care supervisor in the cruelty investigations department. “She’s made such big improvements. As for Tanner, he’s growing so fast, and he’s quite eager to get to know people. He also loves to play!” Tanner charmed hundreds of people after he was filmed playing with a blue ball at the Good Shepherd Barn, and the video was shared on social media.

Harnett says she’s sure Tanner and Sweet Pea will have plenty of room to enjoy themselves once they arrive at their new home. “The couple who’s adopting them live on more than 100 acres in Clearwater. Tanner will have some new yearling friends to play with on this land where he and his mom can roam, play and live like horses were intended to live: as a herd. We’re grateful they’re going to a good home, and this wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the BC SPCA’s amazing supporters.”
Congratulations to Tanner, Sweet Pea and their new guardians!
