Victoria resident charged with animal cruelty

January 13, 2012

A Victoria woman has been charged with three counts of animal cruelty under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act stemming from an incident in June, 2011, when she allegedly failed to seek life-saving veterinary care for her Great Dane after the dog gave birth to 11 puppies.

Kristine Dudley-Danskin is charged with failing to seek treatment for the two-year-old dog, named Rosie, whose condition deteriorated over a three-day period following the birth of her puppies. Rosie later died from a blood infection caused by two unborn fetuses and a ruptured uterus.

The accused makes her first court appearance on February 2 at Western Communities Courthouse.
The BC SPCA conducts nearly 7,000 cruelty investigations a year and is reliant on donations from the public to continue its work. To find out how you can help, visit spca.bc.ca/support.
