Stray Labs Lucky and Charm find happiness after porcupine injuries

November 1, 2024

Lucky and Charm, two Labrador retriever mixes, had a tough start to life. Found as strays near Prince George, British Columbia, both dogs were in pain, with porcupine quills stuck in their faces. But thanks to a kind stranger, caring veterinarians, and the BC SPCA, their story has a happy ending. Today, both Lucky and Charm have found loving fur-ever homes where they are both thriving. Read on to discover their wonderful new lives.

Lucky and Charm were spotted wandering along a forest service road outside Prince George. A worker saw that both dogs had porcupine quills embedded in their faces, and knew he had to step in. He acted quickly, taking the injured dogs to a vet clinic. The vet at once called the BC SPCA, and the organization stepped in to provide the care and love that Lucky and Charm needed to begin their healing process.

Over the following weeks, the BC SPCA made sure both dogs received proper medical care to remove the quills and help them heal. They were also given the behavioral support they needed after being strays for so long. With time, Lucky and Charm were ready to find their forever homes—and both did!

Charm’s “charming” new life

Charm, the more talkative of the two, found a wonderful home. He had some extra medical work done, including a fractured tooth that needed to be removed, but he bounced back quickly. His new family fell in love with his sweet and playful personality.

Charm is known for being a bit of a character. He loves to follow his family around the yard, always wanting to be a part of whatever they’re doing. He’s also full of energy and can be strong on the leash. He especially loves chasing small animals like bunnies when he sees them! Even though he sometimes “sings” when he’s lonely, his new family adores this quirky trait.

Charm’s rough start is now far behind him. In his loving home, he’s finally getting the care, attention, and affection he deserves. His family is grateful to have him, and Charm is happy to have found his place.

Lucky’s adoption update

Lucky also found a perfect forever home. Now renamed Kaya, he lives on Vancouver Island with a wonderful guardian who loves taking him on trail walks. One of Kaya’s favorite things to do is explore the outdoors. Whether hiking through the woods or riding in the car, Kaya enjoys every moment of his new life.

Kaya also has a favorite toy: a large rubber ball that he loves to play with. He’s always ready for a game of fetch or some fun in the yard. His days are now filled with adventure, playtime, and plenty of love from his new guardian.

From his early days wandering as a stray, Lucky’s life has completely changed for the better. His new home on Vancouver Island is full of excitement, and he’s living the life every dog deserves.

Lucky and Charm’s journey from being lost and in pain to finding loving homes is truly heartwarming. Thanks to the quick action of a stranger, the medical care they received, and the support of the BC SPCA, both dogs now have the happy endings they deserve.
