Senior dog Magnus finds home for the holidays after over 300 days in care

December 6, 2024

After an incredible 337 days in BC SPCA care and traveling between 5 different Animal Centres to find his dream home, we are happy to announce the adoption of sweet senior Coonhound mix, Magnus.

Magnus entered BC SPCA care just over 11 months ago, spending nearly an entire year waiting patiently for the right person to find him. He was surrendered to an Animal Protection Officer due to an unhealthy home environment. As he approached his 10th birthday in care, we couldn’t help but feel for this gentle senior who had spent so many nights alone, hoping for the companionship he longed for. But today, we celebrate the beautiful outcome of his patience and resilience.

Throughout his time at the BC SPCA, Magnus showed us what a sweet and loving soul he is. His days were filled with waiting, but also with hope. Every wag of his tail and every hopeful glance seemed to tell us that the right family was out there, just waiting to meet him. And after 337 days, that special someone finally arrived!

Just weeks before his 10th birthday, Magnus found his forever family. And let us tell you, they are the best new parents ever! Magnus’s new home is everything he deserves—a place filled with love, comfort, and the space to be exactly who he is. For the first time in a long while, Magnus won’t have to spend nights alone or wonder when his family will arrive. Instead, he will be surrounded by warmth, affection, and a family who will cherish him for the rest of his days.

Since his arrival, Magnus has been settling in beautifully. His new mom shared a wonderful update about his first few days: “Yesterday, Magnus explored the property, had a good look at the inside of the house, and enjoyed a peaceful nap before dinner. He was as good as gold throughout the night.” It’s clear that Magnus is quickly adapting to his new life, enjoying his new surroundings and the peace of knowing he’s finally home.

To make things even more special, his foster mom, Tracey, has been staying in touch and will occasionally dog-sit, ensuring that Magnus continues to receive all the love and care he needs. The bond between Magnus and his foster family is something truly special, and it’s so wonderful to see that they’ll continue to be a part of his journey.

Magnus’s journey was not one he took alone. It was made possible by the incredible care and dedication of the BC SPCA staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure that he was ready for his forever home. From the moment Magnus entered our care, we knew he was a special dog, and the BC SPCA family came together to give him the best chance at finding the perfect home for this special senior pup.

A huge thank you goes out to all the BC SPCA centers that cared for Magnus during his time with us. From the South Okanagan/Similkameen, Shuswap, East Kootenay, and West Kootenay teams, your dedication and love have truly made a difference.

Now that Magnus has found his forever family, we couldn’t be happier for him. This sweet boy has waited so long for this moment, and he deserves nothing but the best. With his new family by his side, Magnus will enjoy a life full of love, joy, and all the cuddles he can handle. Whether it’s lounging on the couch, enjoying peaceful walks, or exploring his new home and yard, Magnus’s life is about to get a whole lot brighter.

We want to say huge congratulations to Magnus and his new family! You’ve waited for this moment, and now it’s finally here. Enjoy every moment, buddy, and make everyday count. We’re so proud of you, and we can’t wait to see you continue to thrive in your new life!
