The holiday season is fast approaching and the BC SPCA wants to see the many animals in their care find a forever home so they can be surrounded by their new family and all the joy of the season! To help make this dream a reality, and to make room for more animals in its centres, the BC SPCA is offering 50% off all adoption fees Friday, December 1 through Friday, December 15.
“There is no better way for us to celebrate the season than to find forever homes for all of the deserving animals in our care,” says Adrienne McBride, the BC SPCA’s senior director of Community Animal Centres.
McBride cautions people from getting caught up in the spirit and adopting an animal without considering their long-term needs or adopting an animal to give as a gift. “It is too hard on an animal to be brought into a home and then returned because someone was surprised and unprepared for the responsibility or the time commitment being a pet guardian takes.”
McBride adds there are exceptions to the rule. “If a family has already made the decision to bring a pet into their home and they want it to be a surprise for their children, then that is one way a seasonal ‘gift’ can work,” she says.
If the time isn’t right to welcome a new addition into your home, there are many other ways you can support animals in need. “We rely on caring donations during this season of giving and there are lots of fun ways to give to the animals. You can make a donation and send an e-card to a loved one, make a purchase from our online store, or send a gift of care to an animal through our gift catalogue,” says McBride. “You can also give the gift of your time. Volunteering as a foster is an amazing way to help these animals enjoy the comfort of a home for the holidays and throughout the year while they’re looking for their forever family.”
Thanks to our friends at Hill’s Pet Nutrition for helping us find more forever homes for animals in our care.
