An Esquimalt resident has received a lifetime ban on owning animals following a BC SPCA animal cruelty investigation. In August 2013, Hubert Henry was charged under both the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Criminal Code of Canada for badly neglecting his female pit bull. The one-year-old dog was tethered outdoors without access to adequate food, water or shelter until she was seized by SPCA special constables in May 2013 and taken into SPCA care.

“Skylar is an amazing dog,” says SPCA Constable Lynsay Bailey. “She was living in the worst possible circumstances, but she is so resilient.” Bailey says the SPCA recommended the lifetime ban in the case because Henry was also found guilty of animal cruelty in 2009 for the neglect of two other pit bulls. The two dogs were seized by the SPCA and adopted into loving homes.
