The BCSPCA Shuswap Branch Recycling Centre is officially open, thanks to a grant from the Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union (SASCU).
Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union (SASCU) celebrated Canada 150 with a grant of $50,000 for one community project.
This grant was used to purchase, install and furnish a recycling centre to provide storage and adequate space for sorting bottles and securing donations dropped off by the community. Remaining funds have been set aside to go toward a future new main building.
“The bottle money stays at our Shuswap branch helping pay for the medical needs of neglected and abused animals and we help keep glass, plastic and cardboard out of the landfill by recycling ,” says Victoria Olynik, Manager of the BC SPCA Shuswap Branch. “It’s a win/win!”
“The SASCU Canada 150 Grant process demonstrated the principles on which the credit union system was built,” says Barry Johnson, SASCU Board Chair. “Our members had a direct voice in how the grant would be invested within our communities and voted for this project.”
“As the Shuswap’s own financial institution, SASCU will continue to be a strong community supporter,” says Barry Delaney, CEO SASCU Financial Group.
