This season, we are pleased to offer winter/spring programs for youth at our BC SPCA Community Animal Centres in Castlegar (West Kootenay) and Kelowna.

Kelowna
FAMILY DAY YOUTH WORKSHOP
Want to make the world a better place for animals? We are inviting youth ages 8 to 11 for this one-day workshop where we will take action for animals! Participants will explore animal themes through games, crafts, and hands-on take-action projects. Together we will learn about what animals need, how to be a voice for animals everywhere, and how we can help the BC SPCA make a difference in our community.
Date: Feb. 16, 2026
Time: 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (drop-off begins at 9:00 a.m.; pick-up extends to 3:00 p.m.)

West Kootenay (Castlegar)
BASICS OF ANIMAL ILLUSTRATION
Participants will learn the basics of drawing from real life, taking inspiration from shelter animals and BC SPCA alumni. Through this interactive workshop, they will learn about the BC SPCA, the basics of animal body language, and contribute to the community by highlighting adoptable animals. Facilitated by Erin Shuttleworth, a professional artist and humane educator. Participants can also bring portfolio pieces for feedback. Please note that participants will not have the opportunity to interact directly with shelter animals.

SPRING BREAK JUNIOR WORKSHOP: We can help animals!
Become animal experts over Spring Break! Join the BC SPCA for an engaging day of games, activities and stories about animals. Campers will receive a behind the scenes tour of the animal centre, and get to read their favourite books to the animals in care. Together we will learn how to help our community by working on projects for the Community Animal Centre. Get ready for a paw-sitively fun day of camp! Please note that participants will not directly be interacting with shelter animals.

SPRING BREAK WORKSHOP: Eco-heroes
Learn about native wildlife at the BC SPCA! During this engaging camp, participants will make beaver dams, explore the outdoors for a scavenger hunt, and play games related to wild animals. By the end of the day, they will have experienced what life is like for wild animals, as well as how to be stewards for the environment! Please note that participants will not have the opportunity to interact directly with shelter animals.
