For more than nine years, Yellow Dog Brewing has been a tremendous supporter of the BC SPCA with our partnership beginning right at the inception of their craft brewery in Port Moody, when founder Melinda Coghill reached out wanting to help the animals. Fast forward nine years and Yellow Dog Brewing’s connection to the BC SPCA is woven into every aspect of their business.
Last week, on November 22, the BC SPCA was thrilled to return the support, as Yellow Dog Brewing accepted a 2023 Giving Hearts Award for Outstanding Small Business in recognition of their generous work with the organization. The Giving Hearts Awards acknowledge the true expression of philanthropy by “celebrating the incredible individuals, families and organizations that generously give their time, leadership and financial support to benefit countless people and communities.”
“Yellow Dog has a strong commitment to the communities it calls home. We want to use that ability as a company to give back wherever possible in meaningful initiatives. They make our community stronger, they make our community better, and that’s really at the heart of what we do,” said Coghill during her award acceptance speech. “The work that I do with the SPCA is very personal to me. Loving animals has been in my blood since a very early age and I’ve been supporting them for as long as I can remember – both personally and corporately. We opened Yellow Dog, named after our beloved furbaby Chase, and it was important for my husband and I both to support them in a larger scale.”
To date, Yellow Dog Brewing has directly donated an astonishing $90,000 to the BC SPCA in addition to offering their support for other BC SPCA events and campaigns which have raised more than $1,500,000 for animals in need. They even launched the Make Your Pet a Yellow Dog Brewing Star competition in 2022, where participants have the chance to win a coveted spot for their pet on a can of Starborn Yellow Dog Brewing beer!
Yellow Dog’s continued dedication to animal welfare goes far beyond financial contributions and branding. They encourage their followers to get involved in the cause through their social media channels and they even inspire their own staff to follow the ‘Adopt Don’t Shop’ mentality.
The BC SPCA was honoured to nominate Yellow Dog Brewing for this incredible recognition and is so proud to have amazing supporters like Melinda Coghill and her team in our communities.
