Volunteer Appreciation Week: Hoda Storey, volunteer, special events & outreach for BC Pet Registry

April 30, 2025

This Volunteer Week, the BC SPCA is proud to celebrate the outstanding contributions of our dedicated volunteer team members across the province. Whether they’re providing hands-on care to animals, sharing stories, or supporting outreach efforts, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their compassion, commitment, and selfless dedication make our work possible—and make a lasting difference in the lives of both animals and people across British Columbia.

Over the last 15 years, Hoda Storey has generously shared her love and time with the BC SPCA, contributing more than 900 hours in volunteer service. Most recently, Storey has dedicated her efforts to supporting the BC Pet Registry program. Priscilla Cheung, manager of the BC Pet Registry, says her “passion for animals and the community shines through in everything she does, making her a fantastic representative of both the BC SPCA and the BC Pet Registry.”

“What really makes Hoda stand out is her warmth and initiative,” says Cheung. “Hoda doesn’t just show up; she actively chats with pet owners, making sure they have the right information about pet identification and registration.”

Before starting her invaluable contributions to the BC Pet Registry team, Hoda contributed a remarkable 876 volunteer hours supporting dog wellness and dog adoption at the BC SPCA Vancouver community animal centre. Her love has changed and will continue to change thousands of lives of animals and people across British Columbia.

“Hoda is always ready to adapt, embracing the changes that have come with new team members and processes,” says Cheung. “Her flexibility and positive outlook have made her a steady and reassuring presence through times of transition.”

This National Volunteer Week is especially meaningful for the BC SPCA as it marks the first celebration since the launch of our new Strategic Plan in February 2025. A key focus of the plan is to elevate the essential role of our dedicated volunteers, whose compassion is at the heart of everything we do. As we look to the future, we are more committed than ever to empowering and recognizing our incredible volunteer community.
