Brave survivor Sitka needs your help

August 7, 2019

The BC SPCA’s Kelowna Branch is asking members of the public to help Sitka, who was hit by a car and left to die on the side of the road.

A Good Samaritan found this beautiful six-month-old black cat trying to crawl off the road and onto the grass. He rushed her to a local animal hospital where staff gave her pain control medication and assessed her injuries. Sitka’s right hind leg was fractured leaving it hanging limp and unusable, which required an emergency amputation.

Sitka

Sitka is recovering after her surgery and will be spayed when she is a bit stronger. She has a glowing personality, always purring and head-butting staff asking for affection. Her cost of care is $1,972.

“Sitka is a really friendly cat and would make a wonderful companion for anyone,” says SPCA Kelowna branch manager Sean Hogan. There have been several cats like Sitka, who have come to the branch recently needing amputations after serious accidents. “These accidents are entirely preventable by keeping cats indoors,” says Hogan. “Indoor cats live longer and black cats like Sitka are especially difficult to see at night increasing their chances of being hit by cars.”
