Following the decision of the City of Port Alberni, the BC SPCA will no longer provide animal control services to the Port Alberni community as of March 1, 2026.
Starting March 1, 2026, members of the public should check the City of Port Alberni website for:
- Assistance with stray animals
- Concerns about dangerous or noisy animals
- Dog licensing
The BC SPCA will continue to provide the following services to the City of Port Alberni residents:
- Accepting owner-surrendered animals
- Animal adoptions
- Emergency Support Services and outreach support for the community
- Compassionate and emergency boarding for animals
- Concerns about abuse or cruelty to animals
- Humane education programs in the community
