A new leash on life: Comox SPCA staff hope public can help Poppy

February 14, 2017

SPCA staff in Comox are hoping the public can help Poppy, a tan Chihuahua who came into BC SPCA care with a cherry eye and a five-year old leg injury.

The injury never received medical attention, which means the affectionate canine must have her leg amputated.

“Poppy is such a sweetheart! With her big ears and her friendly personality, she still has so much life to live and love to give,” says BC SPCA Comox Valley & District Branch manager Emily Priestley, who notes Poppy will be available for adoption after her surgeries and recovery.

“Even with three legs, she can still live an active and happy life as a ‘tri-pawed’ furry family member,” Priestley says.

The medical costs associated with Poppy’s care are estimated at $1,800. A non-profit organization, the BC SPCA relies primarily on donations from the public to help the province’s most vulnerable animals.

If you can help Poppy and other animals like her at the Comox SPCA, you can donate online at spca.bc.ca/medicalemergency or in person at 1668 Ryan Road East, Comox.
