In the summer of 2014, Melinda and Mike Coghill opened up Port Moody’s very first craft brewery – Yellow Dog Brewing, named after their beloved yellow lab, Chase. Before opening the doors to their brand new business, they knew they wanted their company to give back to a cause near and dear to their hearts. Knowing the BC SPCA was a natural fit, Melinda reached out to see how Yellow Dog could get involved.
Fast forward six years and the Yellow Dog family has remained a loyal BC SPCA partner donating over $40,000 plus a generous amount of their pup-themed beers (Chase My Tail, Retriever, and Squirrel Chaser to name a few). They support the Society through rain and shine, literally, walking at Paws for a Cause presented by Hill’s Science Diet and serving up delicious Yellow Dog brews to thirsty participants. They help educate and inspire their customers by raising funds for the animals at their brewery’s tasting room and by using their social media channels to actively encourage others to get involved in the cause. Perhaps the most rewarding of all, they have given three lucky BC SPCA pups the most loving forever home.
Finley is the most recent BC SPCA pup to join the Yellow Dog pack. The Coghill’s recently moved to Penticton but that didn’t stop Melinda from driving to Vancouver and back in late October of 2019 to adopt the four month old, yellow lab and bullmastiff cross who needed a home. Finley is happily honouring Chase’s legacy of inspiration and loyalty, and continues to fuel the Coghill’s love for animals. The BC SPCA is deeply grateful for the Yellow Dog family and knows their commitment inspires others to embrace a lifestyle of generosity and care.
