Help Dixie walk without pain

December 23, 2019

The BC SPCA is asking members of the public to assist with medical care for a five-year-old stray black lab called Dixie.

Dixie

“Dixie was found wandering alone in Prince George and was transferred to Vancouver to get the specialized surgery she’ll need,” says SPCA Vancouver branch manager Jodi Dunlop. “The cranial cruciate ligaments in her back legs have ruptured and every step for her is agony. She will also need surgery to fix her damaged tail.”

Medical bills and associated care for Dixie will cost about $6,230. She will spend the next few months recovering in an SPCA foster home before she is ready to be adopted.

“Dixie is cheerful and playful despite being in so much pain,” says Dunlop. “She loves people and always greets you with a toy in her mouth before coming over to you for snuggles and cuddles.”

If you can help this dog and other animals in need at the Vancouver SPCA, please visit spca.bc.ca/medicalemergency or visit the branch at 1205 East 7th Avenue, Vancouver, 604-879-7722.
