Help Bane get life-changing spinal surgery

June 17, 2019

Bane needs your help! This little dog arrived at the BC SPCA’s Maple Ridge Branch with what was suspected to be an abscessed tooth but X-rays revealed that was not the case. However, something was definitely wrong. Staff saw Bane could not walk properly and was showing signs of being in extreme pain.

Bane was given pain control medication and taken for an MRI, which determine that he had intervertebral disc disease in his c2 to c3 spinal cord causing spinal compression in the neck area. This incredibly painful condition is known as Wobbler Syndrome.

The neurologist who examined Bane said his prognosis post-surgery is excellent. This little dog is seven years old and has plenty of pain-free years ahead of him. “When Bane is having one of his extreme pain episodes he still wags his tail and looks for comfort and affection,” says SPCA Maple Ridge branch manager Krista Shaw. “He likes hopping up into the laps of staff so he can get a hug and give a kiss.”

Bane will require physiotherapy and several months in care to recover before he is ready to be adopted. His total cost of care is expected to reach $9,440. “He is the most loving and trusting little guy. Bane loves people, other animals and children,” says Shaw.
