5 seniors pets available for adoption that will warm your heart

November 1, 2024

For National Senior Pet Awareness Month, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible senior animals that are full of love and looking for their forever homes.

Senior pets are often overlooked, but they have so much to offer—calm temperaments, loyal companionship, and a wealth of life experience. Check out these 5 amazing animals that prove that age is just a number!

Missy – Update: Adoption Pending!

Missy may have some grey hair, but this spunky girl has plenty of pep in her step. At 11 years old, this sweet Papillon is a big personality in a small package. She has plenty to say, and she loves to tell you what’s on her mind in the mornings when she’s ready to start her day.

Missy’s ideal forever family would be home often to provide some extra support with her separation anxiety, as she’s working through her vocal habits when left alone.

Missy is awaiting dental surgery and is looking for a foster-to-adopt home until she receives her care. Let’s give this senior girl the comforting retirement home she deserves: Learn more about Missy here.

Meekio & Panda

Meekio (left) and Panda (right) are 13 and 14-year-old charming, bonded boys. Panda’s affection knows no bounds; He has quickly won the hearts of animal centre staff with his desire to soak up pets, and we’re certain he’ll steal your heart too!

Meekio, on the other hand, enjoys cozying up on your lap for a snuggle but will let you know when he’s had his fill of attention.
Interested in being Meekio and Panda’s cuddle buddy throughout their golden years? Learn more about Meekio and Panda here.

Bear  – Update: Adopted!

Bear is an adorable 8-year-old German Shepherd looking for someone to appreciate his youthful soul! He is a total toy enthusiast. He’s all about spending his days with a chew toy, ball, or stuffie. Don’t let his age fool you – he is full of energy and can’t wait to share it with you.

Bear is an easy-going guy; he’s house trained and would do well in a home with kids and other dogs! Given the proper exercise and stimulation, it’s possible that he could also do well in an apartment. Learn more about this sweet boy Bear.

Winnie

Winnie is a gorgeous 8-year-old tortoiseshell longhair that has been waiting over 130 days for her forever retirement home. She may come across as shy when you first meet her, but with time she’ll be sure to shower you with affection.

To keep Winnie happy and healthy, she is on a weight loss plan that includes Hill’s Metabolic food and a gentle exercise routine. Her beautiful coat needs regular grooming to keep it pristine, but she will give you all her love in return for the extra care. Has Winnie won over your heart? Learn more about this sweet girl here.

Smokey

Smokey is a 10-year-old happy-go-lucky boy that’ll fill your life with laughter and love. Big Smoke could use help shedding some pounds, but with a balanced diet and regular walks, he’ll thrive! Other than some attention to his weight, this loveable boy has received an, “all clear” from the vet, and he is in good health.

Smokey’s ideal home is one filled with love, patience, and the occasional treat (just a few, though!). Learn more about him here.

Honourable Mention – Paige

Can you believe that Paige, the beautiful Appaloosa mare, is 21 years old? Paige was brought into care underweight and needing veterinary care. This triumphant girl has gained the weight and nutrients that she needs, and her health has stabilized while in foster care.

Paige may not be up for high-speed adventures or heavy lifting, but she’d be thrilled to join your family as the perfect companion horse. Paige is calm, gentle, and has great manners on the halter, leading quietly and respectfully every step of the way. Learn more about her here.
