3 Long-Stay Pets Ready to Spring into Summer with You

May 28, 2025

As the weather warms and the season shifts from spring to summer, it’s the perfect time to open your heart—and your home—to a furry companion. While many animals find homes quickly, some wait a little longer for the right match. At the BC SPCA, these long-term residents have shown resilience, charm, and a whole lot of love. Now, they’re just waiting for someone like you.

Meet three incredible animals who have been in our care for over 50 days—and are ready to start their next chapter.

Jade – The Energetic Sweetheart

Location: BC SPCA Richmond
Time in Care: Over 131 days

Meet Jade! She’s a bright, lively dog with a big heart and even bigger energy. This intelligent girl thrives on routine, mental stimulation, and lots of physical activity. Whether it’s long walks, playtime with toys, or solving food puzzles, Jade is happiest when her body and brain are engaged.

Jade came to the BC SPCA through no fault of her own and is now looking for a stable home where she can settle in and shine. In her previous home, she lived with a small dog and an older child, and with proper introductions, she may do well with another canine companion.

Jade would do best in a calm, structured environment with direct access to the outdoors. While she has a lot of energy, once her needs are met, she becomes an affectionate cuddlebug who loves nothing more than curling up with her favorite people.

She’s a wonderful candidate for positive reinforcement training, and partnering with an AnimalKind Certified Trainer can help her continue to grow in confidence and connection. Learn more about loveable Jade here.

Garth & Galinda – Bonded Bunnies Seeking a Forever Home After 596 Days

Location: BC SPCA Victoria
Time in Care: Over 596 days

Meet Garth and Galinda—a deeply bonded pair of ruby-eyed New Zealand rabbits who have been waiting far too long for their happily ever after. These gentle giants have been in care for over a year and a half, patiently hoping to find someone who sees their quiet charm and gives them the loving home they deserve.

As large bunnies, Garth and Galinda need space—not just a cage or pen, but a real area to roam, zoom, and flop freely. They thrive in a bunny-proofed environment where they can express their natural behaviors: sprinting across the floor, doing high-speed binkies, and then collapsing in a cozy pile for a good nap.

These two spend their days playfully chasing each other, munching hay, and enjoying quiet moments together. While they’re not the flashy, attention-demanding type, Garth and Galinda form deep bonds once they feel safe and secure—and with a little patience, you’ll earn their trust and affection. Open your heart and home to Garth and Galinda here.

Meet Kitty – The Quirky, Sun-Loving Sweetheart

Location: BC SPCA Kamloops
Time in Care: Over 107 days
Age: 3 years old

Kitty is a beautiful, soft girl with the cutest little meow and a charming mix of independence and affection. When she first arrived, she was shy and hid from the resident dog—but now they share a playful bond, complete with gentle swats!

She loves being outside and is learning to walk on a leash. Kitty enjoys being petted and held—but always on her terms—and has a feisty streak with playful nibbles during petting sessions. You’ll often find her lounging in a sunny spot, soaking it all in.

Kitty would do best in a calm home that respects her pace and offers safe outdoor access or continued leash training. Learn more about Kitty here.
