The BC SPCA has seized 18 animals in distress from a Nanaimo-area breeder. Five small breed dogs, including shih tzus, poodles, chihauhaus, and lhasa apso mixes, eight small breed puppies, four birds and one cat were taken into SPCA care after their owner failed to provide proper care. “The animals were housed in extremely unsanitary conditions, living in unventilated areas filled with excrement,” says Const. Tina Heary of the BC SPCA. “The dogs also had internal and external parasites and dental disease, and the floors in the small area where the puppies were housed were covered in broken glass and pottery.”
