At the BC SPCA, we believe every companion animal of any age deserves a place that feels like home. Seniors are often passed over in favor of younger pets, yet they bring so much to the table: calm companionship, a known personality, and the gift of being loved through their golden years.
Here are three wonderful senior animals currently looking for their forever homes across British Columbia. Could this November be the start of something special?
A Happily Ever After with Happy
Meet Happy, a sweet senior gentleman with a playful spirit that defies his age! True to his name, Happy brings a quiet joy to those around him. He’s lived his life in a calm, adult-only home with no other pets, and would be happiest in a similar serene environment where he can thrive.
Happy is a friendly and affectionate boy who enjoys head pets and gentle attention-just don’t expect him to enjoy being picked up. He’s a bit sensitive about being touched on his sides, but he’ll let you know with his gentle demeanor. Despite his age, Happy is still full of spunk and loves to play when the mood strikes!
Happy is on medication to manage his hyperthyroid, around $40 a month, so he’ll need a loving adopter who can support him through his golden years. If you’re looking for a loyal, quiet companion with a playful streak and lots of love to give, Happy might just be your perfect match.

Gracie: A Senior with a Heart of Gold
Meet Gracie! This beautiful senior Lab is as lovely as they come – gentle and full of love to give.
Gracie was returned to the centre for no fault of her own. She’s now back and better than ever, ready to find that fur-ever home once again! At her core, Gracie is a people pup. She adores being near her humans and truly blossoms when she’s with someone who has time to share – whether it’s a slow walk in the sunshine, a peaceful nap by your feet, or simply sitting together in sweet, quiet company. She’s still quite spry for her age, so an active home would be lovely to ensure she’s getting the exercise she needs!
Gracie suffers from separation anxiety, which means that she’s still learning that it’s okay to be left alone for short periods of time. This means that she’ll need a family that is able to be by her side all day and gradually work up over time to leaving her for short periods. This process takes time, patience, and dedication but with the right home, we know she’ll thrive. She’d do best as the only dog at home.
If you’ve got room in your life (and heart) for a darling old soul who wants nothing more than to be near you… then Grace is waiting with her tail wagging and heart open.

Meet Smoke: Handsome Older Gentleman
Meet Smoke, this handsome older gentleman is ready to find a calm, loving home where he can enjoy the quiet life he deserves. Smoke is all about cozy naps, gentle pets, and peaceful company – he’s the definition of a lowkey companion. Though he has some arthritis and a sore hip, that doesn’t stop him from seeking out affection and offering plenty of purrs in return.
Smoke is also on a prescription diet to help him lose a bit of extra weight and stay as healthy and comfortable as possible. With a little TLC and a comfy spot to relax, he’s sure to brighten your life with his gentle spirit, soft snuggles, and loving heart.
