At the BC SPCA, every adoption tells a story of compassion, second chances, and new beginnings. Today, we’re thrilled to share a beautiful update about 11 Muscovy ducks who recently found their forever home, and are now thriving in a place where they are free to explore, forage, and live just as ducks should.
These lovely birds were part of a group who came into care through our animal protection work, and thanks to the dedication of one very kind adopter, they now have something truly special: freedom, safety, and a future full of fresh air and sunshine.
A Warm Welcome to the Flock
Upon arriving at their new home, the Muscovies were introduced slowly and thoughtfully to their new surroundings. For the first week, they stayed within a spacious, covered run, where they could settle in and get acquainted with the existing flock of ducks and geese who already call the property home.
This gentle approach allowed the new arrivals to feel safe and supported, with plenty of room to stretch their wings and adjust at their own pace. It didn’t take long for their personalities to emerge as curious, calm, and clearly eager to explore.
From Rescue to Free-Range
Once they felt confident in their new environment, the Muscovies made a group decision: it was time to see what the rest of the property had to offer!
These lucky ducks now spend their days free-ranging on a beautiful 10.5-acre property, where they can engage in all the natural behaviors that make ducks so special. They forage for greens and insects, waddle through the grass in a close-knit flock, and enjoy the warmth of the sun on their backs.
Their adopter shared how heartwarming it is to watch them explore together, discover new favorite spots, and truly come into their own.
Safe, Secure Nights
While the days are filled with adventure, evenings are all about safety and routine. Each night, the Muscovies are brought back into the covered run, where they’re protected from predators and the elements. It’s a comforting, predictable routine and a crucial part of keeping them healthy and happy.
With fresh bedding, clean water, and cozy shelter, their nighttime space offers peace and protection after a day well spent.
A Testament to Compassion
Muscovy ducks are known for their quiet charm and gentle nature, and this group is no exception. Their adopter describes them as “so cute and fun to watch”, and it’s clear they’ve already become a beloved part of their new home.
These ducks have come such a long way: from being at risk, to being fully embraced into a life of freedom, safety, and dignity. It’s stories like this that remind us how powerful kindness can be.
Grateful for Our Community
This happy ending wouldn’t be possible without the support of our dedicated donors, volunteers, and adopters, who help us rescue and rehome thousands of animals each year. To the compassionate individual who opened their heart and land to these 11 Muscovies: thank you for giving them the life they deserve.
And to everyone who supports the BC SPCA, whether by adopting, donating, or spreading awareness, thank you for being part of this life-changing work. Together, we create a world where animals are safe, respected, and loved.
