Sweet Sugar Plum hopes for a pain-free future at Penticton SPCA

February 8, 2018

A cat in care at the BC SPCA South Okanagan/Similkameen Branch needs some help to live out the rest of her nine lives without pain.

Sugar Plum, a sweet senior kitty who came into care as a stray, has entropion of her eyelids, which means her lids turns the wrong way and her eyelashes scrape against her eyeballs every time she moves her eyes.

“This condition is constantly painful for this poor girl, who has suffered with this issue for many years, if not her whole life,” says BC SPCA South Okanagan/Similkameen Branch manager Carolyn Hawkins. “She’s such a gentle and loving cat! Even at 11 years old, she’s still in great health and has a lot of love to give yet.”

The medical costs associated with Sugar Plum’s care, including surgery, are expected to exceed $1,500. A non-profit organization, the BC SPCA relies primarily on public donations to help the province’s most vulnerable animals.

“Even with the pain her condition causes, Sugar Plum is as sweet as her name,” Hawkins says. “She’s a lap cat through-and-through and wants nothing more than to enjoy the rest of her nine lives pain-free and cuddled up with her new family.”

If you can help Sugar Plum and other animals like her at the BC SPCA South Okanagan/Similkameen Branch, you can donate online at spca.bc.ca/medicalemergency or in person at 2200 Dartmouth Drive, Penticton.
