Presentations

Please note: at this time we are offering single-session presentations for students K-7.  Workshops, field trips and service projects are not currently available. Please subscribe to e-Teacher newsletter for the latest updates on our program offerings.

Play It Safe (Social-Emotional Learning): Should I play with you? Learn how animals communicate to us through behaviour, body language, vocals and movement. Students will learn to recognize unsafe situations, and how to safely and respectfully interact with animals. For safety reasons, K-2 sessions will include a life-sized stuffed dog. For students grades 3+, we will do our best to include a live dog (subject to presenter availability).

Wildlife Wonders (Sustainability & Stewardship): Who lives in my own backyard? Hear real wildlife stories, then go outside to connect with nature in our local community. Students will identify how we can all be better stewards of our environment and neighbours to wildlife.

A Look Inside the BC SPCA (Social Responsibility): Ever wonder what the BC SPCA does to help animals? Hear real stories of animals the BC SPCA has rescued and learn about our role in making communities safe, healthy places for all. Students will discover how they can support our work and make a difference in the world.

FAQs

What can I expect during a presentation? Our presentations are highly educational and interactive. Students will be guided through a big idea and curriculum connections using a multimedia presentation, story or demonstration. Students will then deepen their understanding by engaging in an age-appropriate hands-on, experiential activity. We encourage questions! Our sessions are facilitated by caring, trained humane educators and volunteers that have experience working with diverse learners.

Will there be an animal at the presentation? No, there won’t be any “real” animals accompanying our presenter BUT our presentations are designed to be fun, educational and interactive in nature! The exception to this is Play It Safe — please see session description.

How long is each presentation? Single-session presentations typically run approximately 35 minutes for grades K-2 and 60 minutes for grades 3+.

How much do presentations cost? Each presentation booking costs $40. If this represents a barrier, please indicate this on your booking form, and we will be pleased to discuss alternate arrangements.

Can we combine multiple classes together for one presentation? Given the interactive nature of our presentations, we prefer to present to one class at a time — but we are very happy to provide multiple presentations to different classes within a school! If you would like to explore options for a larger group presentation, please contact your Regional Humane Educator, noted below.
