FAQs

What is the difference between virtual and in-person presentations?

Virtual sessions includes a multimedia presentation with a live animal meet & greet for the last 10 minutes during Q&A. Please log in 10 minutes before your scheduled presentation time so that your classroom audio/visual set-up can be adjusted as needed. In-classroom presentations do not include live animals, instead your class will be led through an interactive story or multi-media story & hands-on, experiential learning activity. After the session, each student will be left a Bark magazine.

What should I expect from a BC SPCA presentation? Our presentations are fun, highly educational and interactive. They are facilitated by caring presenters who have experience working with diverse learners and have successfully passed a criminal record search with vulnerable sector check.

  • Before the session, you will receive confirmation of the date/time and a “kick-off” package. Please complete the introductory activity with students.
  • During the session, a presenter will guide your class through a big idea and curricular connections using a multimedia or interactive story. Students will deepen their understanding through a hands-on, experiential activity. Teachers and leaders are required to be present for the duration of the presentation/workshop.
  • After the session, we provide additional resources to review and extend the learning. Each student will receive a Bark magazine (in person only) and an e-invitation to join the BC SPCA kids club for free (optional, a $20 value).

How long is each presentation?

  • Grades K to 2: ~ 35 to 45 minutes
  • Grades 3 to 5: ~ 60 to 75 minutes
  • Grades 6+ & community groups: ~ 1.5 hours

Can we combine multiple classes for one presentation? Given the interactive nature of our presentations, we present to one class at a time — if a group of teachers want presentations, we will book a time with each class.

Are your programs inclusive? Yes! We develop presentations and workshops using an inclusive mindset and strive to accommodate different learning styles and needs. Please tell your presenter if your students have any special considerations (visual, hearing impairment or physical limitations) and academic or behavioural needs before the presentation date.
