How to get started
Thinking about writing a will can be overwhelming – but it is the kind and thoughtful thing to do for your loved ones, both two and four legged.
You can start by emailing foreverguardians@spca.bc.ca and requesting an information package. We’ll then send you a helpful guide with everything you need to know about leaving a gift to The BC SPCA.
What it means to become a caring Forever Guardian
When you become a Forever Guardian, you’ll join a special group of animal lovers who are there for whatever the animals may need in the future. We don’t always know how animals will need us in the future, but we do know that we need to be ready. Your loving gift will be there for the animals, providing support for the lifesaving work we do every day as well as building a foundation for a brighter future.
What kind of gift can you leave?
We receive many calls from animal lovers asking if we will accept certain gifts. Thank you for your generosity and for thinking of the animals at the BC SPCA! We accept the following type of gifts:
- Bequests (Specific, Residual, Contingent)
- Gifts from a Trust
- Publicly Listed Securities (PDF) (shares, bonds or units of a mutual fund trust)
- Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs)
- Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIFs)
- Life Insurance Policies (LIPs – direct beneficiary or donation of policy)
- Tax Free Savings Accounts (TFSAs)
- Real Estate
- Charitable Remainder Trusts
Wording for your will to leave a bequest:
“ I give to The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 1245 East 7th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., V5T 1R1, charitable registration number 11881 9036 RR0001 [‘the sum of $____’ OR ‘____ percent of the residue of my Estate’] for the “Greatest Need Fund.”

If you have decided to join us as a Forever Guardian, we would like to express our gratitude! We also want to ensure that we respect your recognition wishes when we receive your loving gift in your will. Some caring animal lovers are happy for us to publicly thank them and inspire others to make a difference, others would prefer to be anonymous in their kindness. It helps us honour your wishes if we know ahead of time:
