A LOOK INSIDE THE BC SPCA:

Ever wonder what the BC SPCA does to help animals? Hear real animal rescue stories and learn how everyone has a role in making communities safe and healthy places for all. Students will be introduced to our animal protection work in age-appropriate ways and experience what it is like to help BC’s most vulnerable animals. This presentation is an excellent way to learn about community helpers, or as a keynote to a project or fundraiser.

  • First People’s Principle of Learning: Learning ultimately supports the well-being of the self, the family, the community, the land, the spirits and the ancestors.
  • Suited grade range: K to Grade 12

LANGUAGE OF ANIMALS:

Communication is a life skill. Students will learn how animals “talk” with us through behaviour, body language, vocals and movement. This primary-focused presentation will ask students to reflect on how we can respect everyone’s feelings and build better, healthier relationships. This presentation links closely to social emotional learning goals and includes a virtual live animal meet and greet.

  • Suited grade range: K to Grade 2

WILDLIFE WONDERS:

Who lives in your backyard? Hear stories about how the BC SPCA rescues and rehabilitates wildlife, then connect with nature in your local community. This outdoor learning presentation (where appropriate) is suitable for all elementary ages. Learners will discover how we can all do our part to care for the planet and live in harmony with wild animals around us.

  • First People’s Principle of Learning: Learning is holistic, focused on connectedness, on reciprocal relationships, and a sense of place.
  • Suited grade range: K to Grade 7
  • Available: virtual only at this time

MAKE A DIFFERENCE!:

Discover how your class can make a difference for companion, farmed, and wild animals through our flexible presentation series, designed for intermediate grades. In one or multiple sessions, a presenter will guide students through key animal welfare topics such as cat overpopulation, the conditions of egg-laying hens, and the lives of animals in captivity. Choose a single focus or explore all three—at no extra cost!

  • B.C. curriculum links: Social Studies Curriculum
  • First People’s Principle of Learning: Learning requires recognizing the consequences of one’s actions.
  • Suited grade range: Grades 3 to 8
