Dog + skunk = a smelly encounter
It’s common for pets, especially dogs, to encounter skunks, but sometimes that results in a spritz or a full-on soaking of an intense-smelling spray from the fluffy, black and white creatures.
The spray is often centred around your pet’s facial area, where it can be more difficult to remove the smell.
Here’s how to best remove the smell:
1 litre of 3 per cent hydrogen peroxide
¼ cup baking soda
1 tsp liquid dish soap, such as Dawn
Combine ingredients and shampoo your pet. Rinse with water and repeat if necessary.
Avoid using solution in your pet’s eyes – if any product does get into your dog’s eyes, it’s important to rinse the area well.
