Adoption fees*

*Fees vary by location and are subject to change without notice. Adoption fees are subject to PST (Provincial Sales Tax), which will be added at the time of adoption. All BC SPCA cat/kitten/dog/puppy/rabbit adoptions include a microchip and lifetime registration with the BC Pet Registry. Registration for lifetime protection is $45 for cats/kittens/dogs/puppies and $11.25 for rabbits, which will be added to the adoption fee. For more information please visit bcpetregistry.ca

BC SPCA Vernon Animal Centre: Physical location permanently closed as of Friday, November 17,  2023

The BC SPCA continues to serve the animal welfare needs for the City of Vernon and surrounding communities through regionally based programs and services including:

  • Animal Helpline: 1-855-622-7722
    The Animal Helpline is available from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days per week (closed on Statutory holidays) to answer questions about BC SPCA services in the community, address animal care concerns and accept reports of animals in distress, and to help with next steps for lost/found animals in the community.

  • Stray Animals
    If you have found a lost or injured dog within the boundaries of the Regional District of North Okanagan, please reach out to the RDNO Dog Control: 250-541-3647 (DOGS) or dogbylaw@rdno.ca.
    If you have found a stray cat or other domestic animal, please contact the BC SPCA’s Animal Helpline at 1-855-622-7722 before removing the animal from the community where it was found.The BC SPCA’s Animal Helpline team is also trained to help assess wildlife situations or you can read this helpful information on how to rescue a wild animal.

  • Animal Adoption
    Are you looking to add a new member to the family? Visit the BC SPCA’s adoption site to see the adoptable animals available in your area.

  • Animal Protection Services
    A dedicated Animal Protection Officer serves the City of Vernon and surrounding areas as part of the BC SPCA’s provincial Animal Protection work. If you have animal welfare concerns or want to report an animal in distress, please contact the BC SPCA’s Animal Helpline at 1-855-622-7722.

  • Animal Surrender
    If you need assistance rehoming your animal, look into these alternatives to giving up your pet. If you don’t see advice on your specific situation, please contact the BC SPCA’s Animal Helpline at 1-855-622-7722 to discuss your specific situation and for more information on the next steps.

  • Pet Food Bank
    If you are in need of pet food to continue caring for your pet or wish to generously donate to help those in need, contact our Animal Helpline at 1-855-622-7722 to learn about the pet food bank services available in Vernon.

  • Volunteering
    Opportunities to volunteer with the BC SPCA include (but are not limited to): animal fostering, helping with the foodbank, animal transportation from Vernon to nearby community animal centres, humane education and representing the BC SPCA at community events.   • Humane Education
    In addition to our online tools and resources that inspire kids to explore ways that they can help animals, the BC SPCA provides Humane Education in the Okanagan through presentations in schools and in the community. Our presentations teach youth about important animal welfare issues and help them to understand the deep interconnections that exist between animals, people and the environment.
