John was born July 31, 1931 in Glasgow, Scotland. He came to Canada in 1957, and lived both in Toronto and Vancouver. After ending his career first as an engineer, and then as a self-employed businessman, John adopted dogs—McDuff, a Yorkshire terrier, and then Betsy, a Shih Tzu—to accompany him in his retirement. John enjoyed daily walks in West Vancouver on the Seaview Walk as well as the Ambleside Seawall. Through these walks he met dozens of other animal guardians and made lifelong friends. After his passing on December 3, 2019, many of John’s “doggie friends” reached out to his two daughters to tell them about the impact he made on their lives – a legacy that started with a connection through their shared passion for animals. The BC SPCA is so grateful for John’s compassion for animals and for his thoughtful gift.
