Although Iris lived in Vancouver and Richmond for over 50 years, she never forgot her deep roots in Scotland. Growing up on her family’s farm in Aberdeenshire, Iris had an abiding affection for all animals. She raised rabbits, sheep and cows throughout her childhood, but her favourite four-legged friends were dogs.
She and her late husband Norman were never without a dog and usually tailored their summer vacations to the needs of their special black Lab, Brett.
Penny, Iris’ next black Lab, came from the BC SPCA’s shelter where Penny was protected after she had been abandoned in the street. Penny and Iris were great companions for many years.
Iris supported the work of the BC SPCA for decades and left a generous bequest for the Society in her Will.
