Charcoal aka Crocs

Crocs first came into our care through animal protection services. When he arrived at the BC SPCA West Vancouver Community Animal Centre, he was covered in feces and heavily matted.

We immediately gave him the medical and grooming attention he desperately needed. Once his basic needs were taken care of, we also recognized that this poor pooch would need a guardian who would be committed to helping him become acquainted with the world around him in a positive manner.

Fortunately, Esther came and met Crocs in September 2024. Now lovingly renamed as Charcoal, he has already come such a long way in his new home in the past three months.

Esther has written to us with an update:

This is Charcoal checking in with his humans, Esther and Kevin.

After going through a long list of name suggestions from us and our friends, we’ve officially settled on Charcoal, and it suits him perfectly!

He has been doing really well—better than we expected, honestly. Charcoal has already been to a few friends’ houses, Bosley’s pet store, dog parks, trails and had some visitors at ours. He has met other dogs, cats, teenagers and he’s doing great with the other dogs.

Charcoal is picking things up quickly but does need a slower introduction to people, which is completely fine and understandable.

Our vet visited and prescribed some ear drops and antiseptic shampoo. She will do more thorough checks and vaccines later when he’s feeling more at ease, but she was really happy with how the first visit went.

We are so grateful. Thank you for everything.”

Thank you, Esther and Kevin, for adopting Charcoal. We are so proud to hear how much progress Charcoal has already made. We’re so excited that he is now finally experiencing all that life has to offer. Thank you for showing Charcoal that the world doesn’t have to be such a scary place. It fills us with joy to know that Charcoal has found his forever home with you.
