Mia was born in Vienna, Austria. Her love of all animals began early in life and when she was very young she managed to talk her parents into letting her rescue a dog. Throughout her life, Mia was never without a pet for long—her love of animals was front and foremost. If she was out for a walk she would always notice the dog before seeing the dog’s owner.
At 19 years of age, Mia moved to Canada with her husband, Horace. Her early job was working at a care facility in Edmonton, then she moved on to being a hairdresser and then eventually owning a ladies’ wear shop. Mia and Horace retired to Brentwood Bay, Vancouver Island.
Mia enjoyed playing tennis and she loved spending time with her little community of tennis ‘girls’ and other close friends. She had an eye for design and was a talented painter and baker. Mia was a kind and generous soul. Her fur babies through the years were very fortunate. Mia was a monthly donor to the BC SPCA and was pleased to be able to leave a final gift to help animals in need.
