May 13, 1934 – July 11, 2024
Margaret was born in London, England. She married Edward in Feb. 1965 and later that year their son, Geoffrey was born. In 1975 the family emigrated to Canada. They spent one year in Richmond Hill, Ont. then lived for ten years in Mackenzie, BC. In 1986, preferring to live somewhere warm, they settled on BC’s coast, in Gibsons.
Margaret’s greatest passion was her pets. Being a young child during the second world war had a huge impact on Margaret’s life. She remembered her family going hungry on many occasions as well as having to hide in bomb shelters. Perhaps going through these difficulties is the reason she grew to love animals so much. She and Ed owned over 15 dogs and cats throughout their lives, adopting many from several different agencies and through other means. In one particular incident Margaret rescued a kitten that was being teased by several teenagers behind a mall. “Timmy” was cared for and became part of the family. Many times, she also ‘dog-sat’ for friends so that they could go on holiday. She loved providing a home for her furry animals and, in turn, they were a great source of joy and comfort to her.
Due to failing health, in 2018 Edward was placed in Shorncliffe Seniors’ Residence located in Sechelt, BC and in 2020 Margaret joined him, living just down the hall from him. Edward passed away in January 2023 then in early 2024 Margaret was moved to Silverstone Care Centre in Sechelt. During these final years, although her memories were declining she still enjoyed seeing pictures and remembering all her pets. Talking about them always put a smile on her face which was lovely to see.
