Even when our animal companions are no longer physically by our side, we always carry them in our heart and mind.
Tammy and her family adopted Scooby Doo, a young Labrador mix, from the BC SPCA Shuswap Community Animal Centre back in 2003. For the next 13 years, Scooby Doo was a huge part of their world.
Sadly, Scooby Doo passed in 2016. Six years later, his spirit still lives strong in his family, and Tammy has written to us with a tribute to his memory:
“In 2003, we wanted to adopt a puppy for my oldest son. He loved ‘Scooby Doo’ and wished for a dog like the cartoon character.
After searching around for the right dog, we came across a black Lab mix at the BC SPCA Shuswap Community Animal Centre. We also met his brother and sister. He was just a bit smaller than his siblings but we thought he was the finest. So, we picked him.
Scooby Doo grew to be bigger than the size a Lab usually grows to. He loved going for truck rides to play at the river. He also loved letting the neighbourhood know he was in the truck!
We had Scooby Doo in our lives for 13 years. Sadly, he passed away in 2016 about a week before my mum passed. He always slept by her side.
Scooby Doo was the best friend we could’ve ever had. His little sister Kika misses him lots too.”
Thank you to you and your family, Tammy, for adopting Scooby Doo and for giving him such a loving home for all those years. We can tell that he has left such a lasting imprint on you all. Scooby Doo was a special boy and we are grateful he had such a happy, fulfilling life with you.
