Meow & Bijou

Timing, patience, devotion and love all play a big part when it comes to building a family of felines.

When Meow first came into our care, he was initially adopted out to a home that was not the right fit. Fortunately for Meow, the original adopters recognized this and brought him back to the BC SPCA Victoria Community Animal Centre to give him a second chance.

Later that very same day, in early 2024, sweet Meow was adopted by his very caring guardian.

About a month later, in March 2024, Meow’s brother-to-be Bijou was being surrendered… until he escaped into a ravine on a sub-zero winter day.

After some medical attention and much affection from the shelter staff, Bijou started to gain some trust in his surroundings. He was now ready for adoption.

His guardian adopted him from the BC SPCA Victoria Community Animal Centre and brought him home to meet his new sibling Meow.

Now, we have heard from Meow and Bijou’s adopter with a heartwarming update:

“Almost a year ago, I adopted Meow, and about a month later I was lucky enough to add Bijou to the family as well.

This has been one of the most fulfilling experiences and I wanted to provide an update to any of the staff who may be curious about them.

Both Meow and Bijou are doing amazing. They have settled in really well throughout the year. Meow took a while to warm up to Bijou but they are becoming closer every day. Meow’s favourite thing is napping in front of the fire.

Bijou in particular has made incredible progress. He has become an entirely different cat over the past 11 months.

When I first brought him home, he spent a week hiding under the bed and many more months being extremely cautious in his new home. There were a few days that I had to hand feed him to get him to eat.

With a lot of love, patience and, of course, treats, Bijou is now a huge cuddle bug and will do anything for a head scratch. He is happy to be picked up and put into my lap and he opts to sleep next to my head every night. Bijou is full of energy and extremely playful. He gets the zoomies and runs around the house, playing with all his toys.

They are both living their retirement dreams!”

Thank you for choosing adoption as your first option. We are thrilled to hear that Meow and Bijou have both found such a safe, loving forever home with you. It warms our heart to know how much Bijou has flourished over the past year.

Your story is truly a testament to the trust you have already built and your commitment to providing Meow and Bijou with the calming and secure environment they needed and deserved.
