Basco

Sometimes, with a little patience, those who are meant to be in our lives will arrive within reach.

When Tracy and her partner were searching for a puppy pal in June 2024, they came across Basco’s profile and fell in love. However, she was too far away.

Then, the very next week, Tracy saw Basco’s location had been updated to the BC SPCA Victoria Community Animal Centre, which was a much more reasonable distance. Tracy took this as a sign that Basco was meant to be in their lives.

Sure enough, Tracy has now shared an update on how Basco is settling in to her new family:

“A month ago, we adopted Basco, formerly known as Tabasco.

Basco is about four months old now. We first saw her listed at the BC SPCA Kamloops Community Animal Centre. This would have been too far for us to go from where we live on Gabriola Island, not knowing if we would be the ones to adopt her.

To our surprise, the next week she was listed at the BC SPCA Victoria Community Animal Centre. It was meant to be!

Basco loves our Dane Eddie and follows him everywhere. He tolerates her and lets her know when he needs his space. She has picked up on this very quickly. We have lots of dog friends that come to visit, to Basco’s delight, because Eddie doesn’t play much.

Basco is doing well in puppy class and is a smart little thing. We are not sure how big she will grow so we are getting her used to kayaking now. She loves it.

When my partner comes home from work, Basco gets so excited and gets ‘helicopter tail’. She loves to snuggle on the sofa with him.

Bonus—no flip flops have been harmed and I leave them everywhere.”

Thank you to you and your partner, Tracy, for not giving up on your hopes and for adopting Basco. She was truly meant to be a part of your family and we’re so pleased we were able to make her more accessible to you. Thank you for your devotion to raising this sweet pup to be such a sociable, adventurous and affectionate girl.
