Pepper

When Pepper came into our care in late January 2025, we knew she would steal the hearts of anyone who laid eyes on her.

An outgoing, curious, young puppy, we knew Pepper would need a guardian who was ready to commit their time to match this pup’s energy.

When Julie saw Pepper available for adoption at the BC SPCA Kelowna Community Animal Centre, she couldn’t ignore the feeling that told her this was the puppy they had been waiting for.

In February 2025, Julie made it official and adopted Pepper. A month later, Julie has written to us with an update, and it sounds there is never a dull moment with Pepper the puppy:

“Our previous dogs had always been important members of our family.

After losing our beloved Border Collie at 13 years old, we took a two-year break. Finally, we felt ready to adopt a puppy again.

We spotted Pepper, a Bearded Collie mix, on the BC SPCA Kelowna Community Animal Centre website. Instantly, we knew we had found our next hoped-for family member. She was adorable. We had adopted through the BC SPCA Vancouver Community Animal Centre before and found the BC SPCA to be a great organization to work with.

After bringing Pepper home, the fun began. She had a great appetite for shoe laces and loved John’s garden shoes. There were little accident puddles dotted around the place.

Pepper was quick to learn everything in the house was a toy for her—even when it wasn’t hers. So, we have moved everything up to four feet or higher. We are now puppy proof!

Pepper is learning fast and loves to play. She is great at training games.

Thank you to all the BC SPCA Kelowna staff. We have our fur-ever puppy.”

Thank you to you and your family, Julie, for choosing adoption as your first option. We are so grateful you were ready to open your heart and your home to Pepper.

We know raising a puppy is no small task, and can see how committed you are to helping Pepper become the best dog she can be. She will benefit greatly from your devotion to training her and keeping her safe. Pepper has found such a loving family with you.
