Molly

For many of us, nothing is more rewarding than providing a safe space to an animal in need.

When Molly first came to the BC SPCA Prince Rupert Community Animal Centre in the spring of 2024, she was understandably anxious. We saw so much potential in her and believed that she would flourish in the right home.

Fortunately for Molly, Susan came across her adoption profile on social media. After looking at Molly’s sweet face, Susan knew she had to come in at least for a visit.

Well, that initial visit turned into fostering. It didn’t take long before Susan adopted Molly in May 2024.

Now, ten months later, we have received an update on Molly:

“We lost our dog of over ten years on Easter Monday in 2024. It was the hardest day of my life, making that decision, because she was riddled with cancer. No treatment was going to help her.

A couple of weeks later, the BC SPCA Prince Rupert Community Animal Centre adoption page popped up on my Facebook. There, I saw the most adorable dog looking up, holding a stuffed toy while lying on her back.

Molly had been at the shelter for some time and was so keen to have a family. She was a large breed, weighing in at 110 pounds. So, we thought we would foster her and see how it goes.

Molly is one of the most loving dogs I have ever encountered. She has so much love to give and wants so much to be loved. When we first met Molly, she had no manners, no leash etiquette (although they had been working on it at the BC SPCA), couldn’t eat on her own and was medicated for her anxiety.

After a couple of weeks with Molly and learning she just wanted someone to provide some unconditional love, a routine, much needed daily exercise and learning the leash, she was not going back.

With us, Molly was home. I connected with her on day one. So, we needed to make the adoption official.

Now, Molly has amazing manners both in person and on leash. She eats on her own, she is good left at home when we go out and she no longer needs her anxiety medication. She has her toys, beds and our space is her space.

She loves her double daily walks, her visits to the dog park and her view from the porch. We are still working on recall, but that’s a story for another day!

Molly knows she is loved and she knows she is in her forever home.”

Thank you, Susan, for choosing to adopt Molly. We are thrilled that fostering her blossomed into such a beautiful relationship. Thank you for providing Molly with the safe space she needed and very much deserved.

Your devotion to giving her all she needs shines through all the confidence she has gained already. It warms our hearts to know that Molly now has a family to love her and an environment that encourages her to be the best dog she can be.
