Emergency Care

We know animals are special, but this happy tale shows just how special they are!

When Laynee – a young, fearful Shih Tzu – found two stray kittens all alone under a bush, she did all she could to alert her person to the babies in need. Alone in the darkness, these young souls must have been terrified, unsure of the world around them, but their connection with Laynee was instant. We’re sure they could sense her compassion and caring spirit from the first moment. Will you share yours with these babies today to give them the best chance possible?

What followed was incredibly heartwarming to witness. The kittens were placed in a blanket lined box beside their rescuer’s bed, and Laynee watched over them all night. With her head resting on the side, she knew her role was to be their furry guardian. She woke to every meow and when the babies needed the warmth of another being, Laynee let them crawl all over her like a surrogate mama.

The next day when the kitten’s mum was nowhere to be found, their rescue team (both human and dog!) brought these little ones to the BC SPCA.

At just a few weeks old, these tiny souls have needed round-the-clock bottle feeding to survive. They were very skinny and hungry when they first arrived, clear signs that they’d gone far too long without their mum’s care. Who knows how long they’d been waiting in the bush for her to return before Laynee found them?

Thankfully, they are now safe in a foster home with a dedicated caregiver to provide them with food, warmth and love in place of their mum. These sweet kittens are becoming stronger every day. While they are growing and recovering, they still have at least four or five weeks until they’ll be old enough to move on from our care. Will you share your loving heart with these little ones to help them get the best start possible?
