EMERGENCY CARE

three fluffy cats in care

33 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens arrive into care from overwhelmed home

Uncontrolled breeding led to over 30 animals in the home, including multiple litters of both puppies and kittens. That’s a lot of mess, a lot of mouths to feed, and far too many animals for one person to give the love and attention they each need to thrive.

Sixteen puppies from two different litters, both of their adorable mamas, four kittens and several adult cats are all now safely in care. Sadly, their previous home wasn’t fit for these sweet ones with feces and urine covering the floors and a flea infestation. There wasn’t enough food to go around, leaving one of the mums very skinny with her ribs protruding.

Bea has been placed on a specialised diet of high-quality food and a careful refeeding plan to help her safely gain weight. Her pups are just four weeks old and while Bailey is doing all she can to feed them, they’re also getting formula and wet food to help them grow strong and healthy.

Bea is the sweetest and we have no doubt her puppies will be just the same when they grow up! They’re already melting hearts.

The second litter is equally adorable and even more of a handful at 12 weeks old. Sadly their mama, Lottie, is very fearful but the team is working patiently with her, and she’s receiving medication to help ease her anxiety.

One of her pups has a concerning lump on his head, and we’re awaiting test results to determine the next steps. If you are able, please consider making a loving gift towards these treatments and their general care today.

As for the kitties from the group, they’re all receiving flea and parasite treatment to help ease their itchy skin. One has a worryingly crusty eye that we’re keeping close watch of as well. Thankfully everyone is very friendly and eager for attention, which makes treatments much more enjoyable for both the humans and animals involved!

When large groups of animals arrive through BC SPCA doors there is a huge amount of work that goes on in the background. Other animals in care might need to be moved to make space for the incoming group; fosters must be prepped to provide a home environment for as many of the group as possible; PPE stocks are checked to ensure no cross contamination during quarantine; and staff hours are changed to ensure intake exams happen as soon as possible. It’s a big operation that takes many people and resources to give animals in need the best care and most loving experience, so they can recover.

Please open your heart to these adorable animals today to set them up for a life of happiness. They certainly deserve it!

We can’t wait for the day when each of these dogs and cats are taken home by their forever families. That moment of connection is so powerful – the first time a kitty rubs against your legs or asks for a chin scratch, or the slobbery kisses of a puppy who is eager to open their heart to you. We are all so lucky to experience that deep animal love.

*in the rare event funds raised exceed the needs of this group, your loving gift will help the next vulnerable animal in need
