Mama Spirit was found 10km down a logging road, her belly protruding due to later-stage pregnancy and suffering with oozing lesions across her face and body. It was clear someone was trying to treat her raw skin and welts, but she wasn’t receiving the care she needed at this critical time before she welcomed a new life. Just imagine her distress, injured and with a baby on the way.

After coming into care, the waiting game began. Spirit’s foster lovingly tended to her over the coming weeks; ensuring she had the right diet, water and a comfortable place to rest before her baby was ready to arrive. Despite her backstory, Spirit is a loving softie who enjoys nothing more than showers of attention from her foster mum. 

Spirit was ready when the birthing pains began and last week, after a calm labour and with support from her knowledgeable foster, she welcomed the most perfect filly!

This precious new life has been named to reflect the journey she and her mother took to safety before she was even born. Little Journey is happy and healthy, and too adorable for words!! Seeing her first steps can’t help but put a smile on your face. You can already see she is a resilient little thing, just like her mama.
