There is an animal welfare crisis emerging on Haida Gwaii. In most other communities, there is an investment made by local government to address animal welfare issues that have a negative impact on public and animal safety. Volunteers, who are currently trying to fill the void on Haida Gwaii, cannot keep pace with the volume of animals in need. Volunteers, staff of the Haida Gwaii Animal Hospital, local health care professionals, and caring residents all struggle with the ongoing exposure to animals in urgent need of help.
