Trapping and relocating wildlife is not humane, here’s why

April 23, 2021

Wildlife nesting in human structures is a common conflict in B.C. However, trapping and relocation for wildlife control is not an effective long-term solution and is not humane.

  • Orphaned babies are left to suffer.
  • Animals face the dangers of unknown territories.
  • Animals get injured trying to escape and might die.

BC SPCA’s AnimaKind program shares tips on how to avoid causing animal suffering when you have unwanted wildlife on your property.

Raccoons or squirrels nesting in your property might cause damage to structures, wiring, or your garden. Animal-friendly wildlife control can resolve these conflicts.

There are long-term humane solutions available that include locating the point of entry, humanely excluding the animals, and maintaining your property to prevent animals from re-entering or other animals to move in.
