Thanksgiving thieves rob Abbotsford SPCA

October 11, 2017

While most people were sleeping off their Thanksgiving weekend excesses, others spent their time breaking into the Abbotsford BC SPCA Branch Monday night. The thieves didn’t access the building, but that didn’t stop them from taking two storage sheds, two lawn mowers, a weed eater, gas cans and a propane tank.

“I am so relieved that all the animals are safe, but for this to happen on Thanksgiving weekend feels like an extra-low blow,” says BC SPCA Abbotsford Branch manager Sarah Ringer.

“They had to take the storage sheds apart to steal them and they made two trips to take everything.”

While it could have been worse, Ringers notes the two storage sheds were initially donated to the branch by Home Depot and the rest of the stolen equipment helped the staff and volunteers maintain the shelter and its grounds, an ongoing necessity.

“Being a non-profit organization, we try to use every penny to help animals, so this hits us hard,” Ringer says. “We thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask if anyone out there might have items like the ones that were taken that they might not need or want anymore.”

The Abbotsford SPCA needs:

  • Two storage sheds
  • Lawn mower
  • A weed eater
  • Gas cans
  • A propane tank

If you’re able to help, monetary donations are also always appreciated.

If anyone has any information about the break-in, the BC SPCA encourages them to call the Abbotsford Police or CrimeStoppers.
