Triple your impact for food banks this holiday season

December 7, 2021

The BC SPCA’s community outreach team has been in overdrive for nearly two years now – with the COVID 19 pandemic and the devastating impacts of the fires and floods across the province which expanded our outreach services. In 2021 the BC SPCA provided a total of 31,192 cats and dogs with food for a week, and the need continues to grow.

The recent flooding in Chilliwack created a shortage of pet food on store shelves. The BC SPCA responded by bringing in as much food as possible to provide for pet guardians. Food was distributed out of the shelter and in a few cases, dropped off at people’s homes. Many bags of dog food were also delivered to a kennel that had taken in a number of evacuated dogs.

The BC SPCA is grateful to all the animal lovers who contributed to help get pet guardians food and supplies during the devastating fires and floods this year and for making it possible for us to help families throughout the year.

However, for those who would still like to help, the BC SPCA has made it easier for you to donate the cost of a bag of kibble or a special treat or toy to a pet who may have very little.

In the spirit of giving back during the holidays all gifts will be tripled up to $40,000 thanks to the incredible generosity of Eileen & Anna, in honour of their dogs Jaide & Leo, and dedicated supporter Gisela. This means that today your donation of one month of kibble turns into three months – giving more time to families finding their footing in challenging times.

A client of one pet food bank refers to her pets as her babies. “They love each other so much, my cuddle bugs. The pet food bank was great when I didn’t have enough food for them and they gave me some. I love that they can help those who struggle and need it. It helps so many people who have pets and low funds and need that bit of help. Just amazing.”

“The bond between people and their pets is very strong,” says BC SPCA senior manager, outreach programs Lidia Kemeny. “Pets are our family, they make us feel safe. With all that the province has gone through this year, donations will make such a difference to pets and the guardians who often sacrifice their own needs for their animals.”

The match has been met – thank you so much everyone!!
