If you have your 2016 BC SPCA Animals Helping Animals calendar on your wall, you’ve already met the beautiful Artemis this past January.
Artemis is a hero. And last year this BC SPCA Victoria Branch alumnus inspired her new mom, Angie Abbey, to enter her into the BC SPCA Calendar Contest where they won the January spot in the 2016 Calendar. When asked why she decided to enter the contest, Angie says “I wanted to share the story about Artemis’ second chance at life as well as have the opportunity to give back. I wanted to give another animal in need, the same opportunity that was given to Artemis.”
Artemis’ story is a harrowing one: less than a day after Angie took Artemis home, there were some unexpected, life-threatening health complications. “It was because of the compassion and support of the veterinarian hospital and the staff at Victoria BC SPCA that Artemis was able to receive the lifesaving care she required,” Angie recounts. “There are no words that can express my gratitude for saving Artemis’ life. It only seemed right to pay it forward by helping another animal in need.”
Thankfully Artemis has made a full recovery and is enjoying her love-filled home.
Angie’s generosity knows no bounds! On top of being a two-time adopter (including Artemis), and participating in the Calendar Contest, she has also been a volunteer. “I am a firm supporter of adoption, and I know that the BC SPCA takes great effort in giving abandoned, lost or abused animals a second chance at finding their forever homes,” Angie notes.
Thank you Angie and Artemis for being heroes to animals in need!
