Foster Care Volunteer Program

About animal fostering

Foster families provide love, care, and a temporary safe place for vulnerable animals to thrive. The BC SPCA provides the food, supplies, and medical care these animals need. Previous experience is an asset but not required; we will provide training and support!

Fostering is a flexible opportunity and allows volunteers to help as often as they like during a six-month period. The duration of foster placements can vary from a few days to a few months, depending on the situation.

Requirements of the role

  • Fosters (or lead fosters in a family) must be 19+ years of age.
  • Pet-friendly housing and landlord approval if you are renting.
  • A room with a closing door and windows where you can provide a quiet, designated space for your foster animal.
  • Regular access to a vehicle to transport your foster animals to appointments, treatments, and weigh-ins at your local BC SPCA animal centre or veterinary clinics.
  • Ability to spend time with your foster animal and monitor their health and wellbeing.
  • Ready to learn about animal behaviour and participate in training.
