Harriet and Frank Orban died in their early eighties within three months of each other. They loved animals all through their 52-year marriage. For years they had a pet bird that would count cards, fly around the room and accompany them even to the bathroom. Later they had a cat that was the center of their attention.
Harriet suffered a severe spinal cord injury in a fall and spent the last 12 years of her life in a nursing home. Her greatest sorrow was that she could not have a pet with her. Frank visited her every day and he often visited the West Vancouver and the Burnaby SPCA locations to play with the cats. They carried around the pictures of their animal friends. Frank and Harriet’s bequest was made toward the medical care for animals in the Lower Mainland.
