Adding a young rambunctious member to the family can be a period of adjustment for the entire household.
Kim and her family were committed to providing a loving and entertaining environment for the right kitten. They especially wanted to adopt some new feline company for their older cat, Scar.
In January 2020, their friend informed them about Sophie, an adoptable bright-eyed tuxedo bundle of energy at the SPCA South Okanagan/Similkameen Branch. It wasn’t long before Sophie came home with Kim and her family.
It hasn’t been easy for Scar so far, but Kim happily reports that he is already finding it difficult to resist Sophie’s charm. Kim has written to us with an update on their lives with Sophie:
I have one senior cat, Scar, who has never been on his own. We had to put down his partner this past spring, so I decided he would love a kitten. Honestly, so would I!
A friend through the BC SPCA found Sophie for us. The staff told us she was an orphaned kitten with a large personality.
We brought Sophie home and needless to say Scar didn’t take too well to this tiny intruder. However, Sophie does not give up. She is a persistent little thing with a very large personality. She is slowly winning him over.
Sophie hangs in there and does not give up. I think Scar is starting to realize it will just be easier to accept her.
She is a very curious kitten and gets into everything. But, when it is time to nap, Sophie crawls onto my chest and flops into a sound sleep. She loves sleeping under the covers during the night and slowly creeping up to pounce on Scar while he is trying to have a good night’s sleep.
I know it won’t be long until Scar protects his little sister and acts more like a kitten himself.
Thank you to you and your family, Kim, for choosing adoption as your first option. Thank you for encouraging Sophie to live her best life and giving Scar the space to accept his new little sister. We wish you many years of watching Sophie grow and creating memories with her.
